RUBY Projects is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Jaylen Pigford, on view April 24 through May 10, 2026, at RUBY.
A self-taught Afro-Latino painter from Corpus Christi, now based in Houston, Pigford has developed a distinct visual language rooted in autobiographical symbolism. His practice draws from cultural heritage, memento mori traditions, and the iconography of calaveras—reframing the skull as a site of resilience, lineage, and transformation.
Balancing intimacy with formal clarity, these works map personal histories of adversity and healing while engaging broader conversations around identity, mortality, and legacy. The result is a body of work that is both materially grounded and conceptually resonant, offering strong continuity within his evolving practice.
Collectors and patrons are invited to join us for the opening reception on April 24 from 5–8 PM.
